BJP Dares Omar Abdullah To Resign Seek Fresh Mandate

(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) Srinagar- The BJP on Wednesday staged a protest against the Jammu and Kashmir government in Srinagar, accusing the Omar Abdullah-led administration of failing to address basic public issues, including unemployment, water supply, healthcare, education and rising power tariffs.

BJP leaders and hundreds of workers assembled near the Clock Tower in Lal Chowk carrying placards and raising slogans against the National Conference-led government.

Leader of Opposition in the J&K Assembly Sunil Sharma said the people of Jammu and Kashmir were facing hardships while the government had failed to address their concerns.

“Today, survival has become difficult for the common and poor people. There is a water crisis across J&K, yet not a single fitter or executive engineer is visible anywhere, let alone a minister,” Sharma said.

He also alleged deficiencies in the healthcare and education sectors.

“Go to the hospitals, there are no doctors, no medical staff, and no one to attend to the poor. Go to the schools, there are no teachers, no masters, no headmasters,” he said.

Sharma Questions Omar's Priorities

Targeting Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Sharma questioned the government's performance and criticised the Chief Minister over his alleged focus on tourism activities.

He asked whether people had elected Omar“to live like a prince and go skiing in Gulmarg and Pahalgam”.

Sharma also accused the government of outsourcing 25,000 jobs and alleged that recruitment was not being conducted fairly.

According to him, the BJP's protest centred on four issues, including what he termed“selling” jobs instead of fair recruitment, failure to conduct local body polls,“rampant corruption” and power tariff hikes.

The BJP said these issues were causing hardship to people, particularly the youth, and demanded that the government take corrective measures.

The protesters were scheduled to march from Lal Chowk towards the Civil Secretariat as part of the agitation. Police stopped the procession near Hari Singh High Street as security forces were deployed and barricades placed along the route.
