RBI Governor Meets US Fed, IMF Leaders

(MENAFN- IANS) Asheville (North Carolina), Sep 3 (IANS) Reserve Bank of India Governor Sanjay Malhotra held separate meetings with US Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh and a senior International Monetary Fund official on the sidelines of a G20 gathering in North Carolina, the central bank said.

Malhotra participated in the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting in Asheville, which brought together senior economic policymakers from the world's major economies.

During the meeting, the RBI Governor engaged with his international counterparts on key economic and financial priorities, according to the central bank.

The RBI did not disclose details of the discussions or identify the specific policy issues raised during Malhotra's engagements.

On the sidelines of the gathering, Malhotra met Warsh, who heads the US central bank. The interaction came as finance ministers and central bank governors considered major challenges facing the global economy and financial system.

Malhotra also held a meeting with Dan Katz, First Deputy Managing Director of the IMF.

The engagements placed India's central bank leadership in direct contact with two major institutions influencing global monetary and financial policy. The Federal Reserve's decisions have consequences beyond the United States, while the IMF plays a central role in monitoring the international economy and supporting financial stability.

The G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors process is the principal economic and financial track of the wider G20 framework. Its meetings allow members to discuss global growth, financial stability, development financing and other challenges requiring international coordination.

The Asheville ministerial brought finance ministers and central bank governors into the same forum for discussions on shared economic and financial priorities. Malhotra represented India's central bank in those deliberations and held bilateral engagements alongside the formal meeting.
