SEC Newgate Names Barbara Mulder As Netherlands CEO

AMSTERDAM - SEC Newgate has appointed Barbara Mulder as CEO of its Netherlands operation, Wepublic SEC Newgate, succeeding Peter Coolen.
Mulder joins the corporate affairs consultancy with more than 20 years' experience in communications, public affairs and crisis management, most recently running her own advisory firm, BM Communications. She previously spent a decade as CEO of BCW Netherlands, now Burson.
Her appointment follows SEC Newgate's acquisition of Wepublic in 2023 and comes after Coolen led the business through a period of transition following the departure of its previous partners in April 2025. He joined at that time from Weber Shandwick in the Netherlands, where he was MD of corporate affairs. His next move is not yet known.
Mulder will lead a team of almost 30 advisers across Amsterdam and The Hague, with a focus on growing the business and integrating its Dutch offer more closely with SEC Newgate's wider international network.
Before BCW, Mulder held senior roles at FleishmanHillard and at Dutch vaccine company Crucell, where she was director of global communications. She also spent 14 years at maritime services group Heerema, latterly as director of communications, and has worked as global advocacy campaign strategist at the Bernard van Leer Foundation.
Wepublic SEC Newgate advises clients on corporate affairs, stakeholder engagement, political intelligence and reputation issues. Its offer includes digital tools for monitoring and analysing political and social developments, stakeholder sentiment and engagement campaigns.

He cited Mulder's strategic advisory experience, understanding of global clients and“the energy that is required to boost growth and expand business” across corporate affairs, stakeholder engagement and critical issues management.
Mulder said:“I am thrilled to be joining the Wepublic SEC Newgate team. Together with the team, I will focus on three things: strengthening and expanding our services in strategic communications, public affairs and reputation management; developing and attracting top talent; and deepening partnerships with our clients.”
