Jordan Plays Bahrain In Asian U20 Qualifiers
Playing in Group D, Jordan beat Afghanistan 1-0 in the opening match while Bahrain beat Tajikistan 3-2. The winners of the eight groups as well as the seven best runners-up, qualify for the final tournament.
Jordan is eyeing the 2027 U20 Asian Cup to which the squad has previously qualified to 9 times. Their best performance was finishing fourth in 2006 to advance to the U20 World Cup in 2007. In previous Asian Cup editions, the team exited the group stages in 1977, 1978, 2008, 2010, 2018 and 2025; exited the quarterfinals in 2012 and 2023. In the past decade, they did not qualify in 2014 and 2016.
The senior men's team's success has raised the bar for all teams after Jordan finished runner-up at the 2023 Asian Cup; runner-up to champions Morocco at the 2025 FIFA Arab Cup; a historic first-time qualification to the World Cup in their 7th time in qualifiers since 1986, as well as booking a spot in the next edition of the 2027 Asian Cup.
In latest age divisions competitions, the men's U23 squad exited the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup quarters after losing to eventual and reigning champs Japan. The U17 men's squad was drawn in Group D alongside Iran, Laos, Pakistan and Sri Lanka for the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. The team did not qualify to the 2026 U17 AFC Asian Cup from which the top eight finishers represent Asia at the 2026 FIFA U17 World Cup. It was the fourth time Jordan fails to advance to the competition since first participating in 1985, after qualifying three times: 1990, 2010, and 2018.
In the women's game, Jordan exited the U20 Asian Cup Round 1, while the senior team didn't make it past qualifiers for the 2026 Women's AFC Asian Cup which Jordan reached twice before: in 2014 as group winner, and in 2018, as host. In addition, the women's U17 team exited qualifiers for the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2026.
