Pro League Kicks Off Thursday

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) AMMAN – The 74^th edition of the CFI Jordan Pro League kicks off on Thursday with 10 clubs contesting the prestigious title, with Faisali and Wihdat's match on Friday taking center stage as local football action returns after Jordan's historic participation at the 2026 World Cup this summer.

The 2026/27 football agenda, newly released the Jordan Football Association (JFA) kicked off with the Super Cup played in the new format of the top four teams - Hussein, Faisali, Wihdat and Ramtha. Faisali beat Hussein 2-1 to win the title and kick off the local season. The competition has now been won by Faisali a record 18-times, Wihdat 15, Hussein and Ramtha 3, Shahab Urdun twice, Ahli and Jazira once.

The Jordan Cup preliminary round kicked off as of August 27 while the JFA Shield, now set for U21 players, starts as of September 4.

Hussein have been Pro League champions for the past three seasons joining the elite group of 9 clubs to to have won the crown since 1944. Together with neighbors Ramtha, they have changed the usual Faisali-Wihdat title dominance by teams from the capital. Ramtha won the 2021/22 crown for the third time in their history after 39 years, while Hussein won the 2023/24, 2024/25 and 2025/26 seasons.

Last season, Shabab Urdun, league champions in 2005 and 2012, had a tough time maintaining their spot in the Pro League. while Ahli and Sama Sarhan were relegated to the First Division and have been replaced by First Division's top two Doqara and Arabi.

Hussein retained their Pro League title for the third year running, combining a first-time triple titles: in addition to the League, they won the Jordan Cup after beating Ramtha and the Super Cup by overcoming Wihdat. Faisali beat Salt to win the fourth title of the season, the 10th JFA Shield.

The Jordan Cup which started in 1980, has had Faisali as a record 21-time champions. Wihdat 13 times, Jazira, Ramtha and Shabab Urdun twice, while Arabi, Hussein, That Ras and Ahli won once each.

The incoming season agenda takes into account club participation in regional events. Hussein were eliminated from the Asian Champions League (ACL) Elite preliminaries last month. Now, together with Faisali, they will play the second tier competition, the ACL Two Round 1 as of September 15.

The Pro League will halt four times, or national team regroups, including for the 2027 Asian Cup in January where Jordan was drawn in Group B alongside Uzbekistan, Bahrain and North Korea.
