Egypt, China Leaders Call For De-Escalation As Regional Tensions Discussed

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping have called for efforts to contain regional tensions and protect the security of Gulf states during talks in Cairo.

President Sisi met President Xi, who is visiting Egypt, on Wednesday to discuss regional and international issues of mutual concern.

The Egyptian president stressed the need to reduce tensions and respect the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of the Gulf Cooperation Council states and Jordan.

He also called for ensuring freedom of navigation and preventing civilians from bearing the consequences of the regional crisis.

On the Palestinian issue, El-Sisi highlighted Egypt's efforts to advance the implementation of the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement and stressed the need to ensure sufficient humanitarian aid reaches the territory.

Xi said China was keen to strengthen coordination with Egypt at international forums and on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

He said greater cooperation between the two countries could contribute to regional security and development and support the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
