Jordan Names New Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman
(MENAFN) Jordan on Wednesday appointed Maj. Gen. Majdi al-Harasis as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, replacing Gen. Yousef Huneiti, who has retired after almost seven years leading the country’s armed forces.
A royal decree made Harasis’ appointment effective Sept. 2. A separate decree elevated him from brigadier general to major general.
Two additional royal decrees granted Huneiti the rank of general and formally placed him into retirement.
In a letter to Harasis, King Abdullah instructed the newly appointed army chief to continue work on restructuring Jordan’s armed forces and improving their capacity to confront emerging challenges and threats with the highest levels of efficiency.
Huneiti had held the top military post since July 2019, making him the first officer from the Royal Jordanian Air Force to serve as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
