Iran Fires Missiles, Drones at US Sites After CENTCOM Strikes
(MENAFN) Iran struck back at American military positions on Tuesday, launching a barrage of missiles and drones, Iran's semi-official news agency reported.
"Field observations indicate Iranian missiles and drones firing at enemy positions," the news agency said, citing reporters on the ground.
The counterstrike followed an announcement from the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), which said American forces had opened fire on targets tied to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) inside the country.
The exchange marks the latest flashpoint in a conflict that has kept Washington and Tehran locked in confrontation since fighting erupted with strikes on Iranian territory in late February. A framework agreement, brokered through Pakistani and Qatari mediation, was reached in June — but it has done little to hold.
In July, the U.S. launched a two-week bombing campaign against Iran and reinstated a naval blockade, a move driven by disputes over vessel movement through the strait.
