Sudanese Army Chief Says Forces Advance Without Stopping Amid RSF War
(MENAFN) Sudanese army Chief of Staff Gen. Yasir Al-Atta says government forces will continue their military advance “without stopping” as the conflict with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) enters a new phase.
Al-Atta makes the remarks Tuesday while inspecting personnel from the 14th Brigade, special forces, the Operations Authority and units referred to as the “Western Forces.” He says the army’s next stage of operations will involve continued movement toward western Sudan, including the Darfur region.
“The movement in the next phase will be without stopping for all forces, whether those stationed or on the front lines,” Al-Atta told troops. “We are fighting to protect civilians, not out of revenge, because we are a professional national army, not the Rapid Support Forces militia.”
The army chief also accuses the RSF of conducting what he describes as “systematic killings” in several parts of Sudan, including El Geneina, El Fasher and areas of Blue Nile state. He alleges that the attacks have been carried out along ethnic lines and further accuses the paramilitary group of recruiting children.
Al-Atta’s comments come as Sudan’s war continues to cause widespread displacement and severe humanitarian consequences across the country, with both sides maintaining their military campaigns in different regions.
The army does not disclose the exact location where Al-Atta conducted his troop inspection. The RSF has not issued a response to the accusations made against it.
