Israeli Special Forces Abduct Security Officer in Gaza City
(MENAFN) Israeli special forces “abducted” a Palestinian Internal Security officer during an operation in western Gaza City on Tuesday while he was carrying out his regular duties, according to authorities in the Gaza Strip.
Maeen Mohammed al-Arabid was reportedly wounded during an exchange of fire with the Israeli unit, while his wife was killed and several of his children sustained injuries.
The Interior Ministry said the operation took place in the al-Katiba area after Israeli forces launched an intense wave of airstrikes early Tuesday. The bombardment reportedly involved dozens of military aircraft of different types and heavily targeted the area before ground forces moved in.
According to the ministry, an Israeli special unit used the airstrikes as cover to enter the area in civilian vehicles and carry out the operation.
The ministry said the forces captured al-Arabid after he was injured during a confrontation with the Israeli unit. It described the raid as causing further casualties among Palestinians in the area, including children, while many others were wounded.
Authorities said al-Arabid had been performing his normal responsibilities as part of the Internal Security service, describing his work as aimed at protecting residents and supporting security and civil stability across the Gaza Strip.
The ministry also said the operation caused significant casualties in the surrounding area, with several Palestinians killed and numerous others injured amid the Israeli bombardment and ground activity.
