Golan Threatens Lawsuit Over Sara Netanyahu’s Oct. 7 Remarks
(MENAFN) Israeli opposition leader Yair Golan is demanding that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s wife, Sara Netanyahu, apologize and withdraw comments that appeared to imply he had prior knowledge of the Oct. 7, 2023 attack.
Golan has given her 24 hours to issue the apology and retract the statements, warning that he will pursue legal action if she fails to comply.
The controversy follows remarks Sara Netanyahu made Monday during an interview, in which she said Golan was near the Gaza border during the initial hours of the attack.
“When you are a senior-ranking military officer like this and claim that you were fighting on Oct. 7, you had been there since the early morning, dressed and ready,” she said, addressing Golan.
She further claimed that he was in the area “very early,” while other people, “including the prime minister,” remained unaware of what was unfolding.
Golan, a reserve major general in the Israeli military, served as the army’s deputy chief of staff between 2014 and 2017. He later held the position of deputy economy minister from 2021 to 2022.
Following the comments, Golan issued Sara Netanyahu with a formal legal warning, demanding that she apologize and withdraw her statements within the 24-hour period.
He said that if she does not meet the demand, he will file a defamation lawsuit and seek financial compensation.
