War Crimes Complaint Filed Against Israeli Soldier in Greece
(MENAFN) The Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF) lodged a criminal complaint Tuesday in Greece against Israeli soldier Oran Rubin, accusing him of war crimes and genocide.
In a statement, HRF said documented evidence places Rubin at two locations in the Gaza Strip that suffered widespread destruction, noting that the soldier is currently present in Athens.
According to the foundation, Israeli forces seized control of Palestine Square in December 2023 and "systematically destroyed the civilian district surrounding the square, first with tanks, bulldozers, and fire, and later through the controlled demolition of buildings that remained standing." HRF said Rubin shared photographs of himself posing atop the square's ruins during that period.
Additional images reportedly show Rubin positioned in front of and inside the Al-Taqwa Mosque following the Israeli takeover of Gaza City's Sheikh Radwan neighborhood.
The complaint contends Rubin's actions may amount to multiple war crimes, among them deliberately targeting religious sites and civilian property, carrying out extensive property destruction without military justification, and striking undefended towns and residential buildings that held no military value.
"The complaint further alleges that, when considered within the broader systematic destruction of civilian life and infrastructure in Gaza, the acts documented in this case also constitute genocide," the statement added.
HRF called on Greek authorities to launch an immediate investigation, interrogate the suspect, and pursue measures including arrest and prosecution referral to block Rubin from leaving Greek territory.
"No one suspected of war crimes should be able to find safe haven from accountability in Europe," the foundation said.
Israel launched what the foundation and other bodies have characterized as a genocidal campaign against Gaza on Oct. 8, 2023, with the offensive persisting for two years and causing extensive destruction; Israeli violations have reportedly continued despite a ceasefire in place since Oct. 10, 2025. U.S. President Donald Trump called on Israel to halt its Gaza strikes on Aug. 17.
Since the ceasefire began, Israel has killed 1,326 Palestinians and wounded 4,398 others, according to the report, while rescue crews have pulled hundreds of bodies from the rubble. As of Tuesday, the death toll from Israel's Gaza campaign since October 2023 stood at approximately 73,462, with 174,509 others wounded, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
