Iran's IRGC Claims Missile Strikes on US Bases in Jordan
(MENAFN) Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared Wednesday that it had fired ballistic missiles at a U.S. Marine installation in Jordan referred to as "Camp Titin," calling the strike retaliation for an earlier American attack.
According to the IRGC, the missile barrage came in response to a U.S. strike on a residence in the city of Sirik, located in Iran's Hormozgan Province, which Tehran alleged had been hosting a wedding celebration at the time.
The Guard Corps asserted that the assault on "Camp Titin," identified as a U.S. Marine base in Jordan, resulted in the deaths of numerous American troops.
In a second statement, the IRGC said it had also unleashed a heavy ballistic missile bombardment on hangars sheltering U.S. RQ-4 and MQ-9 long-range drones at Prince Hassan Air Base, also in Jordan. Tehran claimed the strike destroyed several drones, killed American pilots and technical staff, and ignited fires across multiple facilities on the base.
Meanwhile, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed it had carried out strikes against IRGC targets inside Iran. In the aftermath of that announcement, Iranian media outlets reported hearing explosions on Qeshm Island and in the cities of Bandar Abbas, Sirik, Chabahar, and Konarak. Iranian state television additionally reported that Jiroft Airport in Kerman Province had come under attack.
Earlier, Ahmad Nafisi, deputy governor of Hormozgan Province, said initial assessments indicated at least four people were killed and 50 injured in the alleged U.S. strike on the wedding gathering.
None of the casualty figures or damage claims from either side have been independently verified.
