IRGC Claims Missile, Drone Strikes on US Bases in Iraq

(MENAFN) Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said Wednesday it launched a missile and drone assault on American military installations in Iraq, asserting that several US facilities and pieces of equipment had been destroyed in the operation.

According to the IRGC, the strikes targeted US positions near Erbil and were mounted in direct response to American attacks carried out overnight.

The Guard said the assault destroyed a maintenance center and storage sites holding technical equipment belonging to US forces, and that the guidance system on an American surveillance balloon stationed at the base was also struck. It further claimed that fuel storage facilities at the base were engulfed in flames and that a number of American troops were killed in the strikes.

The exchange follows a late Tuesday announcement from the US military's Central Command (CENTCOM), which said it had carried out strikes on IRGC targets inside Iran.

In the aftermath, Iranian media outlets reported explosions heard across multiple locations, including Qeshm Island, Bandar Abbas, Sirik, Chabahar, and Konarak.
