Erdogan Pledges to Expand Türkiye’s Cooperation with SCO
(MENAFN) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Tuesday that Türkiye intends to strengthen and expand its cooperation with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), calling the group a "rising star."
Speaking at the SCO Plus meeting in Bishkek, the Kyrgyz capital, Erdogan said Türkiye would work to broaden its engagement with the organization across various areas.
"We will strive to advance our cooperation with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which we see as a rising star, in every field," Erdogan said.
He highlighted the SCO’s scale, noting that it represents around 3.5 billion people and an economy worth approximately $35 trillion in gross domestic product. Erdogan described the organization as an essential pillar of an increasingly multipolar global order.
"The Shanghai Cooperation Organization, representing 3.5 billion people and $35 trillion in gross domestic product, is an indispensable element of a multipolar order," he added.
Erdogan also said the SCO has grown into a significant part of the evolving multipolar international system during its 25-year history. He emphasized that Türkiye considers the organization to be complementary to the United Nations, particularly because it provides a platform connecting countries from the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions.
"The Shanghai Cooperation Organization, representing approximately 3.5 billion people and $35 trillion in gross domestic product, has become one of the indispensable elements of a multipolar order over the past 25 years. We see the organization, which brings the Asia-Pacific region and the Middle East together on the same platform, as a supporter and complement to the UN.
