Iran Ready To Reciprocate If US Returns To Islamabad Mou: Pezeshkian
Pezeshkian made the remarks during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Kyrgyzstan, where he discussed recent regional developments, Iran-US relations and security and economic cooperation among SCO members, Tasnim news agency reported.
He said Iran and the US reached an agreement on June 18, 2026, after nearly three months of talks mediated by Pakistan and Qatar. The agreement became known as the“Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding”.
Pezeshkian said that the US adhered to the agreement for less than two weeks before withdrawing from its commitments. He said Iran had taken measures in response to what he described as Washington's violation of the agreement.
“If the United States returns to its commitments under the memorandum, the Islamic Republic of Iran will immediately take reciprocal action,” he said.
Pezeshkian also described US and Israeli attacks on Iran in 2025 and 2026 as violations of the UN Charter and international law, saying military, economic and infrastructure facilities were targeted during the 40-day war.
He called for expanded economic cooperation among SCO members and proposed establishing an SCO bank, an export and investment insurance union and an energy consortium.
The Iranian president also proposed creating a strategic security studies centre within the SCO to assess emerging threats and security developments.
