Modi Urges Dialogue, Diplomacy to Resolve Global Conflicts
(MENAFN) Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi calls for dialogue and diplomatic engagement to address international conflicts, as the Russia-Ukraine war continues and tensions between the United States and Iran remain elevated.
Speaking at the 2026 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, Modi reiterates India’s position that lasting solutions to conflicts cannot be achieved through military action alone.
India has “consistently maintained that the solution to all tensions and conflicts cannot be found on the battlefield, but only through dialogue and diplomacy,” Modi said in an address to the summit.
He emphasizes that the interconnected nature of the modern world has expanded the meaning of security, with conflicts increasingly producing consequences far beyond their immediate locations.
“In today’s interconnected world, the scope of security has become even broader,” he said, adding that the crisis in the Middle East “has shown that a conflict in one region does not remain confined to that region alone.”
Modi points to the wider effects of regional instability, particularly on energy supplies, maritime commerce and global supply networks. He says countries in the Global South are particularly vulnerable to the economic and security repercussions of such crises.
“Its impact is felt across the world in energy security, maritime trade and supply chains. The countries of the Global South bear the greatest burden of such consequences,” the Indian leader said.
Against the backdrop of growing uncertainty and instability, Modi encourages SCO members to turn their geographic connections into opportunities for cooperation and work collectively to improve living conditions for their populations.
Stating that “at a time when the world is going through uncertainty and instability,” Modi told the SCO: “We must transform our shared geography into shared opportunities and bring positive changes to the lives of our people through our collective efforts.”
