Sikorski: Russia's War Against Ukraine Extends Far Beyond Europe

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) He made the statement in Bratislava at a meeting of the foreign ministers of the Visegrad Group (V4 – Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary), attended by Japan's foreign minister, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"We discussed global security challenges. Our discussion confirmed that the Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific theaters are becoming increasingly interconnected," Sikorski said.

According to him, this is particularly evident in the context of military cooperation between Russia, China, North Korea and Iran.

"Russia's war against Ukraine remains the most serious challenge to European security and, more broadly, to the rules-based international order. Its consequences extend far beyond Europe. Continued support for Ukraine is an investment in confidence in the international order," Sikorski said.

The participants also discussed opportunities to deepen cooperation between Central European countries and Japan. Sikorski identified the automotive industry, infrastructure, energy, science and advanced technologies as priorities.

The Polish foreign minister also welcomed the resumption of active work by the Visegrad Group, noting that "Poland is pleased to see the return of V4." He later explained that the group's activities had been somewhat frozen because Hungary, following the authoritarian style of governance under former Prime Minister Viktor Orban, had returned to the path of European cooperation.

Sikorski thanked Slovakia for hosting the meeting and wished it success in implementing its program as chair of the Visegrad Group.

The Visegrad Group was established in 1991 to promote regional cooperation and coordinate European integration.

The most recent meeting of the V4 foreign ministers took place in March 2024. Since then, the group's ministerial-level activities have been significantly complicated by differences in the positions of the participating governments, particularly regarding Russia's aggression against Ukraine and EU policy.
