Ukraine At UN Urges Non-Recognition Of Illegitimate Russian Elections In Occupied Ukraine


(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Ukraine's Deputy Foreign Minister Mariana Betsa said this on Tuesday during a UN General Assembly meeting on the situation in Ukraine's temporarily occupied territories, according to an Ukrinform correspondent based in New York.

“Ukraine calls on all member states, international organizations and parliamentary institutions not to recognize these illegal and fictitious electoral processes, their results, or any mandates obtained as a result of voting conducted in Ukraine's temporarily occupied territory,” Betsa said.

She also urged states and international organizations“not to send observers or representatives to these illegal electoral processes, and not to participate in any activity that could be construed as recognition or legitimization of such voting.”

Betsa stressed the need for continued support for Ukraine in strengthening its military capabilities and air defense.”

According to the deputy minister, tougher sanctions against Russia and coordinated action aimed at undermining Russia's ability to continue and expand its war are necessary to achieve a comprehensive, just and lasting peace.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, the UN General Assembly convened on Tuesday for a debate on the situation in Ukraine's territories temporarily occupied by Russia.
