Qatar Charity Launches Eye Surgery Convoy In Mauritania

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) As part of its ongoing health initiatives for underprivileged communities worldwide, Qatar Charity (QC) has launched a specialised medical convoy for eye surgery in Mauritania. Organised with the support of Qatari donors, the initiative is being implemented in cooperation with Mauritania's National Program for Blindness Control.

The medical convoy aims to provide specialised check-ups, consultations, cataract surgeries, as well as distribute prescription glasses and medicines. The campaign targets vulnerable residents in Moudjeria, El Ghaire, and Legrane.

In a press statement, Dr Souleimane Cheikh Hamdi, Acting Director of Programs and Projects at Qatar Charity's Mauritania Branch, said the convoy aims to provide 2,500 medical consultations. He added that the team is scheduled to perform 250 cataract surgeries, distribute 250 pairs of prescription glasses, and provide 250 medical prescriptions to eligible patients.

For his part, Dr Souleymane Ahmed Deida, co-ordinator of the National Programme for Blindness Control, expressed his gratitude to the benevolent people of Qatar and Qatar Charity for this crucial initiative, emphasising that the targeted areas are in dire need of such medical interventions. He urged local citizens to actively visit the convoy and make the best use of its services. Dr Deida noted that ensuring early participation in the initial screenings and consultations is essential, as it paves the way for the subsequent treatment and surgical stages.

Dr Hamahoullah Sid'Elemine, Director of El Chourouk Clinic, which executes the convoy's operations, stated that a well-coordinated plan has been established with Qatar Charity to implement the campaign in two distinct phases. The first phase, which focused on consultations and screenings, was completed between August 22 and August 28. This will be followed by the second phase, dedicated to surgical interventions and medical follow-ups, scheduled from October 22-27.

Many beneficiaries expressed their deep satisfaction with the procedures during the first phase of the medical convoy. Edoumha El Cheikh Siden expressed her gratitude for the Qatari support and Qatar Charity's efforts to bring vital medical services directly to communities in the country's interior regions, noting that residents previously had to travel to the capital to receive treatment.

Similarly, Mrohamed Salem El Abass expressed his happiness about the convoy, stating that he was in urgent need of eye treatment, which has now officially begun thanks to this campaign. He thanked everyone who helped make the initiative possible.
