MOECC Announces Start Of Migratory Bird Hunting Season
In a statement, the ministry stressed the need for hunters to adhere to the regulations and requirements governing the hunting season, and to comply with the types and methods specified in the ministerial decision, in order to contribute to protecting wildlife, conserving biodiversity, promoting the sustainable use of natural resources, and maintaining ecological balance in the country.
The decision specifies the bird species that are allowed to be hunted during the season, namely: houbara bustard, common curlew, mallard, blue rock thrush, song thrush (Al-Rukkhukh), common golden oriole, crested lark, Isabelline wheatear, desert wheatear, and northern wheatear.
The decision also prohibits the hunting of any other species of wild animals, birds, or reptiles not included in the list of species permitted to be hunted, in accordance with national legislation governing the protection of the environment and wildlife.
The ministry stressed that hunting the houbara bustard should be restricted to the use of falcons only, and prohibited the use of unauthorized means and equipment, particularly devices that mimic bird calls, due to their potential negative impact on wildlife and ecological balance.
The MOECC called on all hunters to abide by the provisions of the decision and the regulations governing the hunting season, and to practice hunting responsibly in a manner that respects the protection of wildlife and its natural habitats. It noted that compliance with environmental legislation is a shared responsibility that contributes to conserving biodiversity and ensuring its sustainability for future generations.
