Mark Feary To Curate 2028 Adelaide Biennial

(MENAFN- USA Art News) The Art Gallery of South Australia (AGSA) has selected Mark Feary as the curator for the next Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art, scheduled for March 3 through June 4, 2028. Feary, who was born in New Zealand, was chosen through an open call process. He currently serves as the artistic director for Melbourne's Gertrude Contemporary.

Established in 1990, the Adelaide Biennial showcases Australian artists and aids in developing AGSA's collection. The museum acquired thirteen works from the 2026 edition, which was curated by Ellie Buttrose and explored themes of pressure on materials, selfhood, and society.

Prior to his role at Gertrude Contemporary, Feary held positions at several institutions including the Australian Centre for Photography and Artspace in Sydney, the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, and the Centre for Contemporary Photography and West Space in Melbourne.

AGSA director Jason Smith stated,“We are delighted to welcome Mark Feary as curator of the 2028 Adelaide Biennial, whose extensive experience and thoughtful curatorial approach will undoubtedly shape an ambitious and compelling exhibition.”
