UK Police Detain Seven People Following Fatal Newborn Incident

(MENAFN) British police arrest seven people as part of a murder investigation following the death of a newborn baby in Sheffield, England.

Officers respond to a report concerning the safety of an infant in the Wincobank area shortly before 6 a.m. local time, according to police.

Investigators then search a property on Holywell Heights, where they find the newborn. Despite attempts by police officers and paramedics to save the child, the baby is pronounced dead at the scene.

"As part of our investigation, seven people have been arrested on suspicion of murder. All of them remain in police custody at this time," Detective Chief Inspector Emma Knight said.

Authorities continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and appeal to anyone with relevant information to come forward.

Members of the public can provide information directly to police or anonymously through Crimestoppers, an independent UK charity that accepts reports about suspected criminal activity.
