UK Channel Crossings Hit Lowest Summer Level Since 2019
(MENAFN) The number of small boats used by migrants to cross the English Channel this summer dropped to its lowest level since 2019, the British government announced Tuesday.
"June, July and August recorded the lowest combined total for small boat crossings since 2019," the Home Office said in a post on X.
A total of 102 boats were detected making the crossing between June 1 and Aug. 31 this year — the lowest summer figure since 2019, when 57 vessels were recorded.
Last week, a Home Office spokesperson said the Labour government remains committed to tackling dangerous small boat crossings, noting that joint enforcement efforts have blocked more than 48,000 crossing attempts and led to the seizure of 1,100 boats and engines since the election.
Separately, during the first three months of the UK-France agreement, French enforcement officers prevented 185 small boat launches and 4,300 individual crossing attempts between April 27 and Aug. 2.
As of Aug. 28 this year, roughly 16,400 migrants had made the crossing — a drop of 43% compared with the same period in 2025, and 17% lower than the equivalent point in 2024, according to reports.
