AKEED Records 98 Rumors In August

Amman, Sept. 1 (Petra) -- The Jordanian Media Credibility Monitor (AKEED), affiliated with the Jordan Media Institute, recorded 98 rumors in August, averaging three per day.

According to its monthly report issued Tuesday, public affairs accounted for the largest share, with 30 rumors, or 30.6 percent of the total.

Economic and social issues ranked second, with 18 rumors each, representing 18.4 percent apiece, followed by political issues with 15 rumors, or 15.3 percent. Security-related rumors totaled 11, or 11.2 percent, while health-related rumors accounted for six, or 6.1 percent.

Public affairs, economic, and social issues together accounted for 66 of the rumors monitored, while political and security issues totaled 26.

The report showed that 88 rumors, or 89.8 percent, originated from domestic sources, compared with 10, or 10.2 percent, from external sources.

Social media platforms accounted for 66 rumors, or 67.3 percent of the total, while 32 rumors, or 32.7 percent, were circulated through media outlets.

Of the total, 58 rumors, or 59.2 percent, were subject to a denial or clarification, while 40, or 40.8 percent, had no recorded denial.
