Rwanda: United Nations (UN), Partners Step Up Ebola Preparedness Efforts
OCHA reports that the UN and its partners continue to support Government-led efforts to strengthen preparedness for Ebola in Rwanda.
No confirmed cases have been reported, but the country remains at risk due to its proximity to affected areas in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and continued movement of people across the border.
WHO continues to work with national authorities to strengthen information sharing and support health facilities.
Risk communication and community engagement continue across 11 high-risk districts. More than 20,000 front-line personnel and over 10,000 community members have been reached with information on Ebola transmission, symptoms, prevention, treatment, and how to report suspected cases.
In July, Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher allocated US$2 million from the UN Central Emergency Response Fund for Ebola readiness in Rwanda. This is part of Mr. Fletcher's allocation of up to $60 million to boost the Ebola response.
