US Ambassador Vows to Avoid Derogatory Remarks About Belgian Officials

(MENAFN) US Ambassador to Belgium Bill White pledges to stop making “derogatory statements” about Belgian officials after holding talks with Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot.

"Today, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot and I had a very frank conversation," White said following the meeting.

"I promised Minister Prevot that I would refrain from making derogatory statements targeting Belgian officials and would direct those complaints to the government directly as a first course of action. We agreed to work together to address those concerns when they arise," he added.

White says both sides reaffirm their shared objective of strengthening cooperation between the United States and Belgium, with a focus on making both countries “stronger, more secure, and more prosperous together.”

The ambassador also points to discussions surrounding American assistance in strengthening Belgium's energy security. The cooperation includes multi-billion-dollar initiatives involving US liquefied natural gas and civilian nuclear technology.

White's pledge comes after he faces criticism over a social media post last week featuring an AI-generated image of Belgian Health Minister Frank Vandenbroucke. The image includes the message “Harms every form of joy of life” and is linked to a dispute concerning health warnings on alcoholic products.
