ADF Violence in Ituri Raises Death Toll to Twenty-One
(MENAFN) The number of people killed in weekend attacks by suspected Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels in villages across Ituri province in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo rises to 21, according to a local civil society leader.
The assaults take place on Friday and Saturday in Mambasa territory, according to Peresi Muhindo, coordinator of the New Congolese Civil Society in Ituri.
“At least 10 people were killed in Mabakuha village, while 11 bodies were recovered in Amani village, all in Mambasa territory,” Muhindo said.
The violence also causes extensive damage to local infrastructure, with a hospital, a church and several homes reportedly destroyed by fire during the attacks.
“In addition to the loss of lives, several infrastructures have been destroyed. A hospital, a church and several residential houses were burned during these attacks,” Muhindo added.
Security conditions remain unstable in parts of Mambasa territory, where repeated assaults against civilians continue to force residents from their homes, according to reports.
The ADF, which is linked to the Daesh/ISIS terrorist organization, has operated for years in eastern Congo and remains one of the region's most active armed groups.
UN experts say the group is responsible for the deaths of more than 1,000 civilians in Congo during 2025 and continues to rank among the most dangerous militant organizations operating in the country's eastern regions.
