Vance Says Trump's Iran Video Post Is Warning Shot

(MENAFN) Vice President JD Vance said Monday that President Donald Trump is using his social media platform to send Tehran a direct warning, after Trump posted an AI-generated video depicting the destruction of one of Iran's key oil facilities.

Speaking to reporters at Joint Base Andrews, Vance said: "I think that he's sending a message to the Iranians."

According to Vance, Trump's message is that Iran is "behaving like a terrorist country," and that continued attacks would carry consequences. Should the strikes continue, Vance said, "there are going to be some consequences."

Vance added that Trump intends to keep drawing on "a lot of tools at our disposal" to safeguard maritime shipping routes.

The comments come after Trump posted late Sunday on Truth Social, sharing an AI-generated clip that shows Kharg Island — Iran's largest oil export terminal — under attack. Accompanying the video, Trump wrote: "Kharg Island being blown to smithereens!"

Vance was also pressed on reports that America's military stockpiles are under strain. He insisted the U.S. remains in a "position of strength," even though the administration inherited a "depleted" arsenal. "We certainly saw under the (former President Joe) Biden administration that the military was underinvested in and under-resourced. We're fixing that every day," Vance said, adding that U.S. forces are now "as strong as we have ever been."

His remarks follow a Washington Post report claiming senior military commanders privately told Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth that the ongoing conflict is "unsustainable" and could undermine the country's readiness to counter global threats or defend the homeland. The Pentagon pushed back on the report, calling much of it "inaccurate."
