Aliyev, Pashinyan Meet in Bishkek to Boost Trade Ties
(MENAFN) Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met Monday in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, where they discussed avenues for deepening economic, trade, and energy cooperation.
The Azerbaijani presidency said the two leaders agreed to keep up direct bilateral engagement to push forward the normalization of relations and reinforce regional connectivity.
Talks also covered Azerbaijani petroleum exports to Armenia, the shipment of grain and other goods through Azerbaijani territory, and progress on implementing the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP).
Aliyev and Pashinyan additionally highlighted the role played by their countries' respective state commissions on delimiting the Azerbaijan-Armenia border, stressing the importance of continuing that work in keeping with prior agreements between the two nations.
The meeting builds on progress from Aug. 8, 2025, when Aliyev and Pashinyan initialed an agreement and, alongside US President Donald Trump, signed a joint declaration at a White House summit aimed at ending decades of hostility — with commitments to halt fighting, reopen transport corridors, and normalize relations.
Azerbaijan and Armenia, neighbors in the South Caucasus, have fought two major wars over the Karabakh region since the late 1980s.
