US, Russia Discuss Ukraine Peace Plan at G20 Talks

(MENAFN) US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent held talks with Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov on Monday to discuss a potential settlement to the war in Ukraine, according to US media reports.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the G20 finance ministers gathering, where Bessent pushed for US President Donald Trump's 28-point peace plan, Fox Business reported.

Media reported that the two officials also touched on economic growth during their discussions, though the full scope of the agenda remains unclear.

Neither the US nor Russian side had issued formal readouts or further details by the time of reporting.

A Treasury official told media that Bessent is set to hold "at least 11" bilateral meetings this week in Asheville, North Carolina, the site of the finance ministers and central bank governors meeting.

Among the officials on his schedule are representatives from China, Japan, South Korea, and Canada — countries with which the US administration has recently clashed over trade.
