Trump Says US Prepares Response to Iranian Attacks

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump says Washington will retaliate against Iran after Iranian missile and drone strikes target American military personnel and facilities in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.

“We're going to hit them hard. There will be a response,” Trump said.

Trump explains that US air defense systems successfully intercept the majority of the incoming missiles and drones. He adds that one missile is assessed as "not going to hit anything significant," leading US forces to allow it to continue through the airspace rather than intercept it.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps says it launches ballistic missile attacks against the King Hussein and Azraq airbases in Jordan early Monday, while explosive drones are used to target Al Minhad Air Base in the UAE.

According to the IRGC, the strikes are carried out in retaliation for a US attack on Larak Island on Sunday. The US operation reportedly seeks to prevent Iran from deploying sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important routes for oil shipments.

The US strike represents the first American attack on Iranian territory since late July. At that time, Washington ends a two-week bombing campaign against Iran after Trump declares that a memorandum of understanding reached in June is no longer in effect.
