Philippine Health Authorities Urge Masks Amid Haze
MANILA, Sept 1 (NNN-Xinhua) -- Philippine health authorities urged the public to wear N95 masks and limit outdoor activities as haze reached parts of Luzon and the Visayas, according to local media reports on Monday, reported Xinhua.
The haze, carried by the southwest monsoon from forest fires in Borneo Island, contains fine smoke, dust and ash that can trigger respiratory issues and eye irritation, the Department of Health (DOH) said.
The DOH warned of difficulty in breathing, coughing and worsening of lung conditions such as asthma, especially for children, the elderly and those with pre-existing illnesses, according to the reports.
The DOH advised staying indoors and wearing N95 masks outdoors. If unavailable, a damp cloth or double-masking may be used as an alternative protection.
