Egypt, China Strengthen Air Cooperation Through Joint Drills
(MENAFN) Egypt and China continue conducting joint air force exercises at multiple Egyptian air bases as Chinese President Xi Jinping prepares for an expected visit to Cairo this week.
The ongoing military drills, known as Eagles of Civilization, take place shortly before Xi’s anticipated arrival in Egypt, according to reports.
The Egyptian army says the second edition of the exercise is designed to strengthen the exchange of military expertise while improving the skills and operational capabilities of pilots involved in coordinated missions.
The training program also features aerial refueling exercises, adding another element to the joint operational training between the two countries.
Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson Chen Xi says in mid-August that the exercises are scheduled to conclude in early September.
The first Eagles of Civilization exercise takes place in April 2025 at an Egyptian air base, involving several multirole fighter aircraft from the participating countries.
Xi is expected to start his Egypt visit on Tuesday, according to a Chinese source familiar with the matter. Egyptian media also confirm that the visit is planned but have yet to announce an official date.
Preparations for the Chinese president’s arrival are already visible in Cairo, where welcome banners appear across parts of the capital as authorities implement heightened security measures ahead of the expected visit.
