Trump Warns US Towns Rejecting Data Centers Risk Falling 'Backwards'
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump said Monday that American communities pushing back against data center development are setting themselves up for economic decline, framing the facilities as vital to the nation's prosperity.
"The only reason that communities throughout the U.S.A. should not want Data Centers is if they want to end up being backwards and poor," Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.
He argued that welcoming the facilities would instead bring "far lower taxes and jobs all over the place," calling on the country to "let Data Reign."
Trump noted that other regions remain eager to host the projects if US communities turn them away, adding that "there are plenty of other places that want them."
He cautioned that rejecting the industry could carry lasting costs, saying "if we kill the Golden Goose, you will only have yourselves to blame."
"China could not be happier with this anti Data Center movement. Actually, they can't believe it is happening," he added.
Public opposition to data center construction has been intensifying nationwide, polling shows, driven by mounting concerns over higher residential electricity bills, strain on local energy and water utilities, noise pollution, and a perceived shortfall in lasting local job creation.
A University of Pennsylvania Annenberg Public Policy Center survey released this month found that 61% of US adults opposed new data centers in their area — up sharply from 49% in the spring — with majority opposition spanning Democrats, Republicans and independents alike.
