Merz Heckled as 'Warmonger,' 'Pinocchio' on Campaign Stop
(MENAFN) Chancellor Friedrich Merz faced jeers and heckling from protesters Monday during a campaign appearance in the northeastern Baltic resort town of Kuhlungsborn, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, according to a news agency.
Along the beach promenade, some demonstrators branded Merz a "warmonger" and "Pinocchio," while others broke into chants of "Resign!", the news agency reported.
Not everyone in the crowd sided with the hecklers — several onlookers pushed back, urging restraint and calling for civility toward the chancellor's detractors.
Merz addressed supporters from behind security barriers at a campaign booth, according to the news agency.
Despite earlier signaling that his team would release a statement following the event, none had materialized by the time of reporting.
The heckling comes with state elections in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern now less than three weeks away.
