Times Square Stabbing Leaves Victim, Attacker Dead
(MENAFN) Two people are dead — a stabbing victim and her accused attacker — following a violent confrontation in New York City's Times Square, while a second victim remains hospitalized in stable condition, officials confirmed Monday.
Police identified the alleged attacker as 49-year-old Pamela Cisneros of Queens. Officers fatally shot Cisneros after confronting her in the wake of a stabbing that left two people injured near West 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue.
According to media, police sources said initially that the woman, who appeared to be emotionally disturbed, had been threatening bystanders with two knives.
Officials said Cisneros stabbed a man and a woman before officers reached the scene, then fled north toward a nearby police substation, where she was confronted by police.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said officers spent roughly four minutes trying to talk Cisneros down, repeatedly ordering her to drop the knives. She refused. Per Tisch, Cisneros told the officers: "I'm not dropping anything. I would rather kill both of you."
Tisch said Cisneros then began waving the knives and moving toward the officers. Officers deployed Tasers, but the devices failed to stop her, prompting two officers to fire their service weapons, striking her.
Tisch said the entire encounter was recorded on the officers' body cameras.
Cisneros was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, Tisch said. She had a documented history of mental health incidents on record with the NYPD, including episodes in 2018 and 2019, though she had no prior arrest record with the department.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani confirmed that both stabbing victims and the alleged attacker were transported to Bellevue Hospital, with one victim listed in stable condition. "I am deeply saddened to report that one of the victims has passed away, as has the alleged perpetrator," he said.
Mamdani added that, per standard protocol, an internal investigation will be conducted and body camera footage will be released publicly.
