Iran Claims US Favors Prolonged Conflict as Leaders Push for Dialogue
(MENAFN) Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says the United States appears interested in keeping the conflict going, while stressing that Tehran remains committed to pursuing an agreement through negotiations.
Pezeshkian makes the remarks Monday during a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, on the sidelines of the 2026 Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit.
The Iranian president says Tehran has honored the commitments it made under a Pakistan-mediated framework agreement with Washington, while accusing the US of failing to uphold its own obligations.
"However, we continue to try to realize the path of agreement and understanding and believe that the continuation of the war is neither in our interest, nor in the interest of the region, nor in the interest of humanity," he said.
Pezeshkian argues that resolving the outstanding disputes requires cooperation and negotiations rather than continued military confrontation.
The Iranian leader also calls for closer relations with India, saying Tehran is prepared to broaden cooperation with New Delhi across multiple sectors.
Modi, meanwhile, voices concern over the worsening regional situation and reiterates India's preference for resolving disputes through diplomatic channels.
"expressed concern at the escalation of tensions in the region and reiterated India’s consistent position that all issues must be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy,” a statement by his office said.
The Indian prime minister also emphasizes the importance of continued diplomatic efforts to establish lasting peace and stability across the region.
"Reiterated the need for continued efforts to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region," it said.
