Lithuania Works to Restore Power After Severe Storm
(MENAFN) Around 17,000 electricity customers in Lithuania remain without power Monday, one week after a powerful storm caused widespread damage across the country.
"As of this morning, we still have 17,000 customers, or rather objects, where electricity supply has not been restored,” said the head of the national electricity distribution operator.
ESO chief Renaldas Radvila confirms that the number of affected locations remains at approximately 17,000, while noting that some of these sites use little or no electricity.
Electricity has already been restored to roughly 90% of those affected by the storm, which struck on Aug. 22 and left more than 268,000 customers without power at its peak.
The distribution operator initially expected to resolve the remaining outages by Saturday. However, the restoration process has taken longer than anticipated, with full recovery now expected by Sept. 3.
The storm causes significant disruption across Lithuania, leaving one person dead and four others injured.
In response to the widespread damage and prolonged power outages, the Lithuanian government declares a nationwide emergency on Wednesday.
