Lebanon Pushes for Full Implementation of Framework Deal with Israel
(MENAFN) Lebanese President Joseph Aoun calls for the complete and impartial implementation of a US-backed framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel, stressing that both parties must fulfill their commitments without selective application.
Aoun makes the remarks during a meeting with Greek President Konstantinos Tasoulas in Athens, where he is conducting an official visit. He urges Greece to provide assistance, where possible, in supporting the implementation of the agreement.
“Lebanon and its people are tired of wars, and the goal of negotiations with Israel is to end the state of hostility,” Aoun said.
The Lebanese president emphasizes that Beirut remains committed to resolving its conflict with Israel through diplomatic means rather than military confrontation.
“We are determined to end the state of hostility, and the solution lies in diplomacy, not war.”
Aoun also thanks Greece for its political, humanitarian and military assistance to Lebanon, highlighting the importance of continued cooperation between the two countries.
He says Beirut wants to expand its partnership with Athens across various fields in ways that benefit both sides and strengthen their shared interests.
“Lebanon’s stability is essential to the stability of the region and Europe, and any instability there would have broad negative repercussions,” Aoun said.
He further emphasizes Lebanon's reliance on support from its international partners, particularly Greece, as the country works to preserve stability and strengthen regional cooperation.
“We always look forward to the support of our friends, foremost among them Greece,” he added.
