IMF Holds Talks with Ukraine Over Economic Outlook, Budget
(MENAFN) An International Monetary Fund mission begins discussions with Ukrainian officials and other relevant stakeholders on Monday, focusing on the country’s economic outlook, reform progress and preparations for the 2027 state budget.
The talks are led by Gavin Gray, the IMF’s mission chief for Ukraine, according to a statement from the Fund’s Ukraine office.
During the discussions, the mission is expected to evaluate Ukraine’s progress in implementing the macroeconomic and structural reforms agreed under its current Extended Fund Facility program. Officials will also examine Kyiv’s plans for next year’s budget as the country continues to face substantial wartime financial pressures.
The latest mission follows the completion of the first review of Ukraine’s new four-year EFF arrangement, which gives the country access to roughly $8.1 billion in financing.
The IMF Executive Board approves the first review in July, allowing the release of approximately $690 million to Ukraine.
The EFF agreement, reached between IMF staff and Ukrainian authorities in late 2025, is designed to help preserve economic stability, strengthen debt sustainability and protect Ukraine’s external financial position while supporting structural reforms and improvements in governance.
The latest discussions take place as Kyiv develops its 2027 spending plan amid ongoing military expenditures and major funding requirements.
The Ukrainian government is working to maintain access to international financial assistance while keeping the economy stable and carrying out the reforms required under its IMF program.
