Jordanian-Saudi Committees Propose Plan To Cut Trade Time, Costs
The plan, put forward by committees of the Jordanian-Saudi Joint Business Council, includes a fast-track trade route, improved risk-management procedures and performance indicators to track reductions in the time and cost of moving goods, according to recommendations issued at the end of the committees' meetings in Amman.
The committees also called for harmonising technical standards and conformity requirements, expanding electronic links between authorities, and exchanging data and certificates to reduce duplicate testing, costs and processing times, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
They recommended improving the efficiency of border crossings, ports and logistics services, removing obstacles facing trucks and goods, and strengthening supply-chain continuity amid regional economic and geopolitical challenges.
The committees also proposed activating the council's Joint Coordination Office to oversee implementation, with clear responsibilities and deadlines, and called for simpler procedures for investors and businesspeople, including wider use of electronic visas.
The recommendations also called for stronger cooperation in industry, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, tourism and investment, including joint projects, increased trade in agricultural and livestock products, and greater promotion of investment opportunities in priority sectors.
The committees said the next phase should focus on turning the recommendations into concrete projects and measurable results, with continued coordination between the private sectors and relevant authorities in both countries.
