Baltimore Museum Acquires 118 Artworks, Bolstering Collection

(MENAFN- USA Art News) The Baltimore Museum of Art has announced the acquisition of approximately 118 artworks over the past six months. These additions, comprising purchases, gifts, and promised gifts, enhance the BMA's global holdings and expand its collection of pieces by Baltimore-area artists, spanning various periods, cultures, and mediums.

Among the newly acquired works are 64 pieces gifted by Baltimore resident Constance R. Caplan, a former BMA board chair with over 50 years of involvement with the institution. Her contribution includes art by Janine Antoni, Bernd and Hilla Becher, Fernanda Gomes, Robert Morris, Stephen Parrino, Richard Tuttle, Lee Ufan, Jack Whitten, and Lisa Yuskavage.

Further acquisitions include paintings by Oswaldo Guayasamín, Amy Sherald, Louis Fratino, and Stanton MacDonald-Wright. Sculptures, mixed-media works, and installations by Rina Banerjee, Ali Eyal, Sanaa Gateja, and Reverend Joyce McDonald have also joined the collection. Additionally, the museum acquired ceramics by Siphiwe Nala and Heidi Lau, photographs by Curran Hatleberg and Oumar Ka, and works on paper by Tarsila do Amaral, Margaret Burroughs, and Ben Shahn.
