IMF Mission Meets Finance Ministry Leadership To Discuss Economy And 2027 Budget

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) The Finance Ministry said in a release cited by Ukrinform that Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko and IMF experts launched talks on August 31. Meetings will continue for three days in Kyiv.

“I am grateful to the International Monetary Fund for its continued support and expertise, which help strengthen Ukraine's economic and financial resilience. Over the course of this week, we plan to agree on the next steps in our cooperation, taking into account current economic conditions and the financing needs of the state budget for 2027,” Marchenko said.

The ministry recalled that under the program approved in February, Ukraine committed to ambitious structural reforms to ensure effective post‐war recovery and progress toward EU membership. These include strengthening fiscal institutions and tax administration, improving governance and anti‐corruption systems, developing financial and market infrastructure for reconstruction with private capital, and advancing the market economy.

As reported, the IMF mission led by Gavin Gray began work in Ukraine on August 31, 2026. Discussions will focus on economic prospects, government commitments to macroeconomic and structural reforms under the IMF's Extended Fund (EFF), and the 2027 budget draft.

On February 26, the IMF Executive Board approved a four‐year EFF arrangement for Ukraine covering 2026–2029, reflecting updated macroeconomic and security conditions. The program provides $8.1 billion in budget support; $2.2 billion has already been disbursed to the state budget.
