Bengal: Police Inspect Abhishek Banerjee's Camac Street Office
The Scientific Wing, which operates under the Detective Department, provides vital scientific and technical aid to criminal investigations.
“The charges made in the three FIRs registered in the matter are quite serious. Hence, we are taking all necessary steps to substantiate the charges. Precisely that is why the officers of the Scientific Wing had been deployed,” a city police officer said.
In the FIRs filed at Shakespeare Sarani Police Station, Trinamool activists have been accused of assaulting on‐duty police personnel and attempting to outrage the modesty of a female officer. Two of the FIRs name Abhishek Banerjee, Trinamool Rajya Sabha member Derek O'Brien, and leaders Humayun Kabir and Baishwanar Chatterjee.
On Monday, Scientific Wing officers inspected the building at 9 Camac Street. They collected information on how the building was obstructed from the gate up to the staircases, prepared sketches, and took photographs from multiple angles. They also documented details such as the number of stairs, their dimensions, and the approximate capacity of the space.
Earlier in the day, state fire services officials also visited the building to check fire safety arrangements.
Tension broke out on Camac Street on August 27 after Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) staff, accompanied by police, reached Banerjee's office to remove the illegal billboard. They faced stiff resistance from party activists led by Banerjee, O'Brien and other Trinamool leaders. Scuffles broke out, leading to the registration of three FIRs at Shakespeare Sarani Police Station.
