RSF Faces New Defections as Fighters Join Sudan Army
(MENAFN) A group of 200 fighters leaves Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and joins the country’s army, according to reports, in another reported defection from the group amid the ongoing conflict.
The fighters, including several senior field commanders, arrive in Omdurman, west of the capital Khartoum, bringing their military equipment with them. They are led by Abu Bakr Hamouda Dahloop, who previously commanded the special missions intelligence division in North Kordofan.
The defectors announce their decision to join the Sudanese army and express their readiness to participate in military operations alongside government forces and their allies.
Dahloop says the fighters now recognize “their mistake in following the project being implemented by the RSF militia.”
He adds that they have joined the “national camp” and intend to fight “for the demands of the Sudanese people to eliminate the rebel RSF militia.”
The latest defection comes as reports indicate that a growing number of RSF personnel are abandoning the paramilitary group and moving to government-controlled forces.
Earlier this month, Sudanese authorities announce the defection of four military commanders, 318 fighters and 50 military vehicles from the RSF. That group, led by Lt. Col. Musa Ali Ahmed, also known as “Khamsin,” subsequently joins the Sudanese army.
The repeated defections come as fighting continues between the Sudanese army and the RSF, with both sides seeking to strengthen their forces and expand their influence across the country.
