Iran Says US Strikes Fail to Halt Oil Production on Kharg Island
(MENAFN) Iran says oil production on Kharg Island continues despite several US strikes on the strategic oil hub, rejecting claims that the attacks have disrupted operations.
The head of Iran’s national oil company says the island has come under repeated bombing by what he describes as the “US-Israeli enemy,” but maintains that oil-related activities have continued without interruption.
The remarks come after US President Donald Trump claimed that “Kharg Island being blown to smithereens.” The Iranian official dismisses the statement as “laughable” and says reconstruction and maintenance work remains underway.
"As I speak to you, several contractors are carrying out operations to rebuild and renovate storage tanks."
"None of the ongoing work on Kharg has stopped. Some projects are currently 20% to 30% complete, and work on them is continuing."
The official’s comments indicate that Iranian authorities are seeking to reassure the public that the attacks have not brought the island’s oil infrastructure to a standstill.
The latest developments follow a US strike on Sunday against two Iranian launchers located on Larak Island, marking the first reported American attacks on Iranian territory since late July.
Iran subsequently responds through its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which says it launches missile and drone attacks against US military facilities in the United Arab Emirates and Jordan.
