Türkiye, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia Launch Joint Defense Committee
(MENAFN) Istanbul will host the inaugural meeting of the Strategic Political and Defense Committee, formed under the Mecca Joint Defense Pact, on Monday, according to Turkish Foreign Ministry sources.
Turkey's delegation is expected to include Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, National Defense Minister Yasar Guler, and Chief of General Staff Gen. Selcuk Bayraktaroglu.
Pakistan is set to send Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, while Saudi Arabia's delegation is expected to feature Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan, Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman, and Chief of General Staff Gen. Fayyadh bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili.
The committee — bringing together the foreign ministers, defense ministers and military chiefs of Türkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia — was designed to steer strategic activities under the Mecca pact.
Monday's talks are expected to tackle pressing international security challenges, alongside efforts to build up defense capabilities and boost interoperability among the three nations' armed forces. Officials are also likely to explore deeper defense-industry collaboration, including joint production and R&D initiatives, plus expanded counterterrorism cooperation.
Beyond immediate security matters, the meeting is expected to lay the groundwork for a secretariat and related mechanisms to guide joint initiatives identified by the committee, while charting a roadmap for next steps.
The gathering is also seen as a chance to reaffirm that the Mecca pact presents a major opportunity for nations committed to bolstering regional security, peace and stability — favoring cooperative security frameworks and prioritizing prosperity over confrontation.
The pact itself was signed in Mecca on Aug. 7 by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Rooted in a shared sense of responsibility and regional ownership amid rising instability at home and abroad, the agreement between Türkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia seeks to strengthen security, peace, stability and prosperity — both regionally and globally — while reinforcing collective deterrence.
Under its terms, an attack on any one signatory will be treated as an attack on all three. The pact also aims to cultivate a new spirit of regional cooperation, remaining open to any actors who respect international law and share a commitment to peaceful collaboration.
