Trump: Iran "Won't Have" Nukes, Warns of Blockade's Toll
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump doubled down on his warning that Tehran must never be permitted to develop nuclear weapons, branding Iran's leadership as "very violent, evil people."
"You cannot let them have a nuclear weapon, and they won't have a nuclear weapon," Trump said in an interview with Fox News published Sunday.
The president contended that Iran would have deployed a nuclear weapon if it had succeeded in building one, warning that the region "would have essentially been gone" and that Israel would have faced destruction — with the United States or Europe potentially next in the crosshairs.
"If I weren't president, Israel would be gone. There would be no Israel. And there would probably be no Middle East," he said.
Trump further claimed that Washington is delivering major blows to Iran, pointing to what he characterized as a highly effective blockade against the country.
"We are doing a great job. The blockade has been unbelievable ... we are hitting them very hard. Nobody has ever been hit like this," he said.
Describing Iran as a "failing nation," Trump acknowledged he had not anticipated Tehran's decision to strike Gulf states once the conflict began.
"Everybody was shocked. I was surprised," he said, adding that the strikes, in his view, cost Iran crucial support.
The president also leveled criticism at Democrats, accusing them of hoping for American defeat in conflicts involving Iran and Venezuela — an outcome he dismissed, insisting the US is "absolutely winning easily."
