Israeli Rabbi's Expulsion Call Reignites West Bank Rights Debate
(MENAFN) An Israeli rabbi has publicly demanded that Palestinians be driven out of the occupied West Bank, asserting that non-Jews hold no claim to national rights in what he called the “land of Israel.”
According to footage released Sunday by Al Jazeera English, Menachem Ben Shahar told an audience that Arabs unwilling to submit to Jewish sovereignty must leave the territory entirely.
The broadcaster also reported that Ben Shahar went further, declaring that even a young child “loses his right to exist” if that child's parents are viewed as “enemies.”
It remains unclear exactly when or where the remarks were recorded.
This is not the rabbi's first brush with controversy. Israeli police detained and interrogated Ben Shahar in October 2025 over suspected incitement to violence against Palestinians and the dissemination of extremist rhetoric, Israeli media outlets reported at the time. He had earlier called for the Palestinian town of Huwara to be “wiped out.”
The remarks come against a backdrop of international legal condemnation: all Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank are considered illegal under international law. In a July 2024 advisory opinion, the International Court of Justice ruled that Israel's ongoing presence in the occupied Palestinian territories is unlawful and must be brought to an end “as rapidly as possible.”
